Thieves use a car jack to lift up the car and take out the catalytic converter, which takes just a couple of minutes.
Converters contain a small out of precious metals like platinum, palladium and rhodium which can be sold at high prices.
Witnesses saw the criminals making a getaway in a silver Ford Mondeo Estate.
With information call police on 101 quoting 43200218531.
Police have also issued advice for drivers:
- Ask a car dealer for advice on locks or guards
- Park in a garage overnight, if that isn't possible park in a well-lit area or try to park so that thieves cannot get to the catalytic converter under the car
- If the catalytic converter is 'bolt on' get the bolts welded shut
- Identify/etch a unique serial number and advertise that the vehicle has been protected with window stickers
Police have also issued advice for businesses with cars:
- Fencing around the cars may act as a deterrent to opportunist thieves
- Block the underneath of the cars
- Get security lighting
- Install CCTV cameras
