A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a  driver died in a fatal crash in the early hours of this morning.

At around 3am a white Ford Transit van and a white Mercedes lorry were involved in a crash on the A420 between Buckland and Faringdon.

The driver of the van, a man in his sixties, sadly died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Thames Valley Police has now arrested a 39-year-old man from Surrey, who is currently in custody.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Anthony Jenkins, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please come forward.

“I would also ask any motorists who were in the local area around the time to check any dash-cam footage in case it may have captured something that could assist with the investigation.

In a now deleted tweet Oxfordshire councillor Liam Walker said: "Due to an earlier fatal incident at approx 3am involving a lorry and a car the A420 at Buckland remains closed in both directions until about lunchtime.

"Our thoughts are with those involved and with the family who have sadly lost a loved one."
