A ‘PROLIFIC offender’ has been jailed after drinking in Oxford City Centre.

Andrew Robinson, of Botley Road, was caught red-handed sipping alcohol out of an 'open container' in Bonn Square at the weekend.

Police say he has a lengthy history of anti-social crimes in the city and the latest was a major breach of a criminal behaviour order (CBO).

A CBO is imposed by a court with the aim of tackling the most serious and persistent offenders.

On Sunday, Robinson also started to get violent and abusive towards police officers.

The 51-year-old left the street in handcuffs and was charged on the same day.

The next day, on Monday, he appeared at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court.

There he was given a two weeks prison sentence.

Police say Bonn Square is a tourist hotspot and families shouldn’t be afraid of the area.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Pete Neale, of the Oxford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is a great result for a prolific offender with a history of alcohol related disorders and breach of court orders.

“Bonn Square is a rest area for families, tourists and groups of people to sit and enjoy the city centre and its facilities, and it should not be a place where anti-social behaviour should occur or be tolerated.

“This provides a real opportunity to achieve a reduction in this type of behaviour as well as safeguarding against alcohol related crime and disorder.”
