UNPLEASANT weather did not stop the people of Woodstock turning out in force for the switch-on of their Christmas lights.
Keshaval Kumar, ten, from Woodstock Primary School won the raffle which gave him the privilege of switching on the lights with town mayor Colin Carritt.
Mr Carritt said: "It was good to see the Market Square so full of people obviously enjoying themselves despite the weather."
They were entertained by Morris dancers Masons Apron, who also performed clog dances, Phosphorus, a troupe which dances with fiery torches, Oxford Caledonian Pipes and Drums, and the children from Woodstock Primary school, who sang for the audience.
The Blenheim Estate donated the Christmas tree, which stands in front of the town hall.
Mr Carritt said: "The town council has put a lot of money into improving the lights this year - we now have LED lights which are more colourful and brighter and which use less energy.
"The whole display could not have happened without the help of the Wake Up To Woodstock traders' group."
