Burglars could be targeting your Christmas presents in the coming weeks, police have warned.
Burglary awareness days have been held by police across Oxfordshire to warn households of opportunist thieves on the prowl during the festive season looking for easy targets.
Although break-ins across the county have dropped by a third this year, burglaries increased significantly last November.
Householders are being warned to hide their presents away in the lead-up to Christmas.
Crime reduction officer Nick Gilbert said: "Although criminals have families, they don't always honour the spirit of Christmas.
"There are people who would rather steal presents for their wife and children so we advise people to be a little more vigilant over Christ- mas."
Acting Det Supt Richard List, who is coordinating a countywide crackdown on burglary, said: "Unfortunately, Christmas can present rich pickings to the burglar.
"The long winter evenings and lure of homes full of gifts can prove tempting for opportunist criminals."
Thousands of leaflets have been sent to homes with tips on how to stay secure, focusing on how to avoid becoming a victim of burglary, theft or car crime.
Advice includes keeping gifts out of sight, using timer light switches if the house is empty, securing sheds and doors, not leaving valuables or presents on view in a car, and not leaving cars unattended with engines running.
