DISGRUNTLED cabbies in Bicester, Banbury and Kidlington are today considering whether to take strike action.

The drivers plan to walk-out this weekend if they are not satisfied with the outcome of a meeting with Cherwell District Council.

It comes amid plans to increase the number of cab licences given out by the council.

Silkandar Hayat, chairman of the Cherwell Valley Hackney Association, is to meet with council chief executive Mary Harpley, to discuss the issue.

Driver Steve Lal, 52, of Bicester, said: "We are prepared to strike if we have to. We will know more after our chairman has spoken with the chief executive."

There are already 83 hackney licences in Cherwell and the Cherwell Valley Hackney Association feels that the council's licensing department can not cope with this amount and that there would be an even greater problem if the licences were increased.
