AN OXFORD man dressed as an alien has visited the stadium of every team in the Football League, a total of 92 clubs.

Jon Goodgame, born and bred in Kidlington, completed the challenge for the mental health charity Mind, taking a photo at every ground as proof of his visit.

Mr Goodgame, 38, started dressing up as his alter-ego Kevin the alien to entertain family and friends over the internet during lockdown.

Inspired by the positive responses, and with added free time whilst furloughed from work, Mr Goodgame decided to take on a challenge he had wanted to do for years – visiting all 92 grounds in the Football League – and he decided to do it dressed as Kevin.

He said: “The 92 club challenge is always something I’ve wanted to do, and the quizzes on Zoom and Kevin became a hit with everyone.

“I wanted to do something and Kevin and the challenge seemed appropriate.

“I’ve got friends and family that suffer from depression and mental health problems, and with lockdown it’s not been nice to see people struggling, so I wanted to do something for Mind and the great work it does.

“During lockdown, the support and advice Mind has given can be life saving and it’s an amazing job that the charity does.

“As well as raising funds, I wanted to raise awareness of what Mind does through a bit of fun and entertainment.”

With hotels and guest houses closed because of the coronavirus, his challenge was somewhat complicated.

In total, the mission took 16 days, including two days off, and covered 4,800 miles.

“I hired two cars and was driving pretty much all day to then come back home to Kidlington and go again the next day,” Mr Goodgame said. "I drank a lot of Red Bull for the drives.

“Some of the clubs were amazing and so welcoming.

“Grimsby Town allowed me pitch-side and gave me a shirt and football signed by all the players, whilst I was also very impressed with Tottenham’s new ground.”

With the challenge nearing its conclusion, Mr Goodgame left the best for last – Oxford United.

“I intentionally left Oxford until last and it was really exciting having Oxford as the last one and I had friends waiting for me,” he said.

“I’m chuffed I’ve managed to do it, even though it was much tougher than I thought it would be.

“Watching the donations come in gave me that extra drive along with all the support from family and friends too.”
