A 24-YEAR-OLD woman who died in a car crash on the A40 near Wheatley has been identified.
Victoria McBryde, 24, of Horton, Northamptonshire, died following a collision on the westbound carriageway of the A40 last night.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision between Miss McBryde's gold-coloured Fiat Punto and a green Peugeot 106, close to the Oxford services area at junction 8a of the M40, at about 11pm.
Miss McBryde was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. The woman driving the Peugeot was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with minor injuries.
Sgt Bill Sykes, of Abingdon traffic unit, said following the initial collision a white van struck the Peugeot, forcing it into the rear of a white heavy goods vehicle which had pulled over to try to help.
Sgt Sykes added: "One line of inquiry for us is that the Punto may have been stationary before the collision.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the first collision or either the 106 or the Punto prior to it."
The drivers of the van and heavy goods vehicle were both uninjured.
The road was closed until 6am today while traffic officers conducted an investigation.
Anyone with information should call Sgt Sykes on 08458 505505.
