Yobs stole a black cab after turfing the taxi driver out of the vehicle and onto the street before running over his foot.
Four men pushed ahead in a taxi rank in Market Hill, Bicester, and started an argument with others in the queue at about 2.30am on Friday.
They then grabbed the taxi driver and threw him out of his cab.
One of the yobs jumped in to the front seat and drove off running over his foot.
The black cab was found abandoned later in Caversfield and the taxi driver suffered minor injuries.
Dc Graeme Johnson, of Cherwell police, said: "We need to clarify exactly what happened here and who was responsible for the dreadful way this cabbie was treated.
"Taxi drivers provide an invaluable service, a job that sometimes puts them vulnerable situations. We will not tolerate such crimes against people just trying to do their job.
"If you were in the taxi queue or Market Hill when this incident happened, or saw the Fiat Skudo being abandoned, we would be very keen to hear from you."
