It was with great interest that I read your comment about the proposed waste recycling plant on the site of the old grain silo near Kidlington (Oxford Mail, November 16).
It would appear that the Oxford Mail would support such a move, subject to the transportation of waste being by rail, not road.
The traffic problems caused every weekday morning by the constant changing of the lights at the entrance to the grain silo and Water Eaton park-and-ride are obvious to anyone approaching Oxford from the north and those living in Kidlington.
The addition of a minimum 186 lorries entering and leaving the site every day will add even more problems to those that already exist.
The county council has a very poor record in controlling the level of traffic in and out of Oxford and, therefore, should ensure that before any change to this site takes place, it should be linked to the transportation of waste by rail, not by road.
The amount of pollution caused by the additional 372 lorries per day is unacceptable and should be challenged with vigour.
The traffic problems that we have experienced around this area by incidents on the A34 over the last few weeks prove what will happen if this is allowed to be built.
