A LOCAL businessman has stepped forward and sponsored a Thames Valley Police anti-theft initiative in Bicester.
David Thompson, of Launton, has paid for 100 key coils, which will be supplied to women in the town to help them avoid becoming victims of pickpockets.
Mr Thompson, owner of MOH Wireless Technologies, based in Brackley, said: "I saw the story and wanted to get involved."
Thames Valley Police has also provided another 150. The coils are available from the Sure Start, British Heart Foundation and Katharine House hospice charity shops in Bicester town centre for a voluntary donation of 50p.
Gail Corcoran, manager of the British Heart Foundation, said: "I think this is a really good idea for these key coils to be stocked in charity shops because a lot of older ladies have their purses stolen in the shops.
"They don't tend to carry cards and normally carry cash only and leave their bags open."
PC Nicki Entwistle, pictured, said: "It's great that Mr Thompson has come forward."
