A cyclist was thrown over a vehicle that crashed into him and sustained fractures to the spine, cuts and severe bruising.

The collision happened just after 9.50pm on Saturday when the cyclist, a 20-year-old man, was travelling along the A4074 through Nuneham Courtenay in the direction of Oxford.

A dark coloured vehicle collided with the bicycle, causing the rider to go over the vehicle, but did not stop.

The cyclist suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash, including fractures to the spine, severe bruising and cuts.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and has since been discharged.

Thames Valley Police is now appealing for witnesses following the incident.

Investigating officer PC Brian Perry of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing based at Bicester, said: “This was a serious collision and the driver of the vehicle involved failed to stop at the scene.

“The cyclist was seriously hurt, but thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening.

“I am appealing to anybody who was in the area and believe that they witnessed this collision to please make contact with police.

“I am also keen to hear from anybody who was driving on the A4074 and who may have dash-cam footage to please check this and get in touch if it has captured anything that can help this investigation.

“I would also appeal directly to the driver. Please get in touch with us. I am sure you will be aware that you were in a collision, and for whatever reason, did not stop at the scene.

“We need to understand the circumstances of this collision, and so please call us.”
