AN OXFORDSHIRE business is offering a platform for scientists to share their research on coronavirus.
Wheatley-based Kudos is giving 60 days free access to Kudos Pro, with over 3,000 researchers already signing up.
Kudos provides a platform for researchers’ work to get into the real world and help people find out about it.
Co-founder Charlie Rapple, 41, said: “We’ve found ourselves in a prominent and important space.

“So far, researchers have created a collection of plain language research on diagnosis and treatment to do with Covid-19.
“Researchers can rapidly communicate with each other on our platform and we’re here to help distribute their research.
“When we first opened the platform, a host of scientists in China used it to communicate with researchers.
“In China, they’re two months ahead so they’re able to share their experiences with the rest of the world.

“Some great research is coming out of China at the moment and other countries are able to access this.
“People are also sharing their research from previous epidemics like SARS and swine flu and how they were dealt with.
“For us as a local company, it’s exciting to see the global uptake from all this, as more people are needing and using our service.”
Mrs Rapple explained that researchers usually communicate through journals and books, as well as events such as conferences and workshops.
However, with this now restricted due to social distancing guidelines, scientists are looking for new ways of communicating.

Researchers are able to sign up, create a profile page, and add a plain language summary of what their project is about, and its importance.
Links to videos, as well as pictures and graphics can also be added to further help others understand their work.
Kudos came into existence eight years ago, with its three founders coming from backgrounds in the research publishing sector.
“Two million articles a year get published in journals and half of them never get read,” Mrs Rapple said.
“Universities have relatively small press and communications teams but researchers need to get their work out in the real world otherwise there’s no point.

“That was the challenge we focussed in on.
“What we wanted to produce was a research marketing platform.”
