Virgin Atlantic is to cut a third of its workforce.
The airline is losing 3,150 posts and the jobs will be lost across the board.
It will also end operations at Gatwick which have been suspended during the pandemic.
Budget airline Ryanair flew just 40,000 passengers last month as the coronavirus crisis brought air travel to a standstill, and warned that operations will continue to be affected throughout May and June.
It is cutting up to 3,000 jobs across pilots and cabin crew in a restructuring programme.
