GRATEFUL families paid a tribute to rubbish collectors continuing to work throughout the coronavirus pandemic by surprising them with an uplifting 'thank you' message on green and brown wheelie bins.
Residents in Abingdon who live on Abbott Road assembled the sign as a way of showing their appreciation to collectors, who continue to work while other services shut down.
The bin display was organised by people part of the 'Workhouse Estate' Whatsapp group in Abingdon.

One Abingdon local Hester Hand explained that the workers were 'absolutely delighted'.
The resident also said that they took photos of the 'thank you' sign on their phones and waved at people from the street.
Rubbish collectors are amongst key workers who are being encouraged to continue with business as normal while all others are being asked to work from home during the implemented lockdown.
Only these workers are permitted to continue their work with as little restriction as possible.
