A FUN Day ended in terror as a parachutist plunged into spectators in September 1986.
The shocking climax to the Kennington Carnival and open day was probably not what the thousands of revellers that had gathered expected to see.
The crowd could only look on as the leader of The Robins team, based at Weston-on-the-Green, missed the landing zone during a display and plunged into the crowd.
Two people, one an Oxford woman in her sixties, along with the parachutist were taken to hospital.
Up to 3,000 people attended the weekend event which also saw a performance by a Radio One DJ, a dog show, and a 'donkey derby.'
