FOR WEEKS on end now, we've been bringing you the latest coronavirus news around the county and beyond – from the latest figures, to new vaccines and postmen walking out to free parking at the JR.
Whilst we've been writing the stories, you've still found time to comment on them.
From the most hilarious to the outright controversial – here's what you've had to say on our top stories.
Last week a nurse accused the John Radcliffe Hospital managers of risking the spread of coronavirus by refusing to make its car parks free for all staff.
She said it was ‘mud in the face’ to NHS staff who are working tirelessly on the front line to treat patients with the deadly disease.
But here’s what you said:
- Wilderness2019: “I think its immoral for any hospital to charge for parking. Most people who have to drive there do it for a reason. Prior to the pandemic many people were too ill to use a bus to get there. It’s not as if you choose to get ill and drive to hospital. As for the staff there – if they have to drive for various reasons, why should they have to pay to park on top of the low NHS wages and challenging working conditions and high cost of Oxford housing?”
- Kenthecricker: “No idea what you’re talking about. If the car parks were free, all the commuters and shoppers and staff would fill them up by 8am. Daft idea.”
- Vikki68: “I have no choice but to bus and pay a fortune for the pleasure (frontline worker) I do any other day, it’s no different…we just gotta get on with it…its our job.”
- Rishi Kalkarni: “Parking apps have started ‘free parking for NHS and keyworers’ programmes see justpark.com/nhs – parking for an example, a quick glance at the app near the JR shows that there are half a dozen free spcaes that have not been taken up for the next several days.”
On the same day we reported that Didcot postmen had walked out on a strike because of coronavirus safety worries.
They said the depot had not been cleaned when one member of staff became ill with Covid-19.
Here’s what you said:
- Homer_Simpson_DohDohDoh: “Quite right, management penny pinching when they should be putting their employees first.”
- Balrog: “Any excuse.”
- Fanfeck: “Seems like a small ask in these dangerous times.”
We also reported on the new vaccine for coronavirus and how one Oxford professor – leading the team of researchers working on a cure – said she was ’80 per cent’ confidence that it would be a success.
Here’s what you said:
- The Voice of Truth: “Lets hope so. Good luck with your research.”
- Simon Tadhampton: “Most readers here won’t understand this level of science but it’s good news. Interesting to see so many leave voters now like experts. I hope this vaccine is first used on graduates – those who can actually help.”
- More-oz: “Just hurry up.”
