WORK is to resume on the next phase of a new £36m student accommodation and shops block in Cornmarket after work was halted due to the coronavirus crisis.
Contractors BAM Construction are building a new shopping block following the demolition of former shops block Northgate House on the corner of Cornmarket and Market Street.

Work on the Jesus College scheme stopped last week while checks were made on procedures to ensure staff were able to work safely, including the correct social distancing according to government guidelines.
Now, following a review, it has been decided that work can continue with a reduced workforce.

A spokeswoman for Jesus College said: “We have been in contact with our main contractor BAM Construction, and consultant team on a daily basis to discuss the progression of the project in light of government advice.
“As a result of that assessment, BAM has concluded that, given the current stage of the project, works at Northgate can continue.
