A FAMILY butchers based in Oxford’s Covered Market has celebrated another five-star hygiene and promised it is 'here to help' self-isolating shoppers.

M Feller, Son & Daughter, was given the top score following a surprise visit by Oxford City Council's health team on February 24.

It was the latest in a string of high ratings for the shop, which was opened by Michael Feller more than 40 years ago in 1979. He started working as a butcher aged 14.

The butchers, which specialises in organic meat, has maintained the rating since 2010, when the ratings system was introduced.

Manager Marc Young said getting a top hygiene score was very important for the business 'especially in the current climate'.

He added: "It gives people confidence and hopefully stands us in good stead for the future as well.

"We always do our our best to maintain the highest standards."

Mr Young said in light of more people self-isolating due to coronavirus Feller’s had waived its usual fee for orders under £15 and will deliver 'anywhere within the ring road' for free.

He added: "No matter how big or small we are here to help the people of Oxford.

"Unless told otherwise by the government we plan to stay open."

The M Feller, Son & Daughter website states the business is ‘dedicated to the finest quality meat and supplying the best fresh organic British meat daily’.

It added: “We don’t just sell meat - we sell expertise.”

The website went on to say: "We are happy to advise you on the best cuts or on the quantity you will need and be more than happy to prepare meat for you.

"If you are looking for something in particular, just ask. If we don’t have it, we may be able to get it or suggest an alternative. We are experienced in handling and preparing meat."

This expertise has been praised by customers.

A recent shopper in an online review wrote: "Feller’s has been around longer than I’ve been alive, and you can see why. It’s definitely expensive, but you certainly get what you pay for.

“The meat is exceptional; it’s the best butchers in Oxford and a cornerstone of the Covered Market.

“It’s a real shame there aren’t more places like this in Oxford.”

Another happy customer added: “For authentic butchered meat, this is the place.”
