Sir - On reading of the battle to keep roadside advertising signs for farmers' markets in West Oxfordshire (Report, November 9), I could not help but wonder what the position is in Oxford city.
Do the Gloucester Green farmers' market signs which appear regularly on major roads into the city have planning permission?
And how about the Oxford Playhouse's Christmas show banners semi-permanently fixed to other lamp posts? What criteria are used in selecting these organisations for display, and does the county council, as presumably the owner of lamp posts, or any other body, receive payment for these displays, and if not, why not? Perhaps some councillor or council officer can let us know.
