The Honda plant in Swindon will be closed until April due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It will close at the end of today's late shift and will re-open on April 6.

A statement from the car manufacturer said: "Honda has today informed Associates and suppliers that production operations at Honda of the UK Manufacturing, in Swindon, UK, will be temporarily suspended due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

"Production will be suspended from the end of today’s late shift.

"These steps have been taken in light of increasing difficulties with supply chains and considering the wellbeing of Honda Associates.

"The current intention is to restart production on 6th April however, this will be dependent upon advice from government and health authorities, and market and supply conditions."
