I disagree with Derek Honey (Oxford Mail, November 5) that the legislation banning smoking has led to a significant loss of customers and will result in a mass closure of public houses.

There has to be sympathy for the unfortunate person with an addiction to smoking prepared to forgo the welcoming, jovial and pleasant atmosphere provided by the landlord in the 'local'. I find it still exists.

It would appear Mr Honey has not considered the management and staff working in a smoke-filled atmosphere.

Every person ordering at the bar exudes tobacco smoke directly and continously into the face of the person serving.
