ALLEGATIONS and doubts against management of a troubled secondary school forced its CEO to withdraw from future responsibilities.

After the largest UK union UNISON announced last week that members had passed a motion of no confidence CEO Jolie Kirby pulled out her application for the position of executive headteacher at Cheney School.

In a statement released by the union it was said that members feels she ‘lacks suitability’ for the role.

It comes after the Headington school this month announced it might have to cut jobs in up to a dozen teams projected a financial deficit of £900,000.

Ms Kirby is Cheney’s former headteacher and is currently chief executive of the Community Schools Alliance Trust, which governs Cheney.

She is also the trust’s accounting officer and signed off on the trust’s most recent annual financial records, for the year ending August 2018.

Chair of Trustees Liz Tyler-Bell confirmed Ms Kirby will continue to support the school with the opening of Barton Park Primary School and other projects until the end of the academic year.

Ms Bell added: “Jolie Kirby feels that recent developments have made it untenable for her to be able to participate in the application process and having come to this decision wants to give the Trust and Cheney School the best chance to secure a great candidate for the role by undertaking an external recruitment process without delay.

“I ask that people recognise how hard this decision has been for Jolie after 13 years of service to Cheney School and join me in wishing her all the best for the future.”
