A FIRST-YEAR undergraduate at Oxford University has died in hospital after contracting meningitis, it has been reported.
It is thought the Exeter College student, who has not been named, died at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
An Oxford University spokesman said public health authorities thought there would be no increased risk to students.
The university has advised students to remain in Oxford rather than to return home early. It has offered counselling to those affected by the death.
