TETSWORTH Primary School was the winner of this year’s Girls on the Ball Tournament (GOTB).

Oxford High School hosted the fifth edition of the tournament last week.

GOTB was set up after it was noticed girls’ sporting teams were difficult to come by and to inspire and develop young girls in sports.

The final between Tetsworth and Oxford High was evenly matched and went to penalties, where Tetsworth clinched it by just the one spot kick.

The Thame school took home the cup with the runners up presented with a plate.

Oxford High’s year nine FA Award Leaders mentored the teams and refereed the matches.

Those involved were lucky enough to spend the day and have their awards presented by Oxford United Women’s Georgia Brown and Amber Roberts.

Miss Roberts said: “There was nothing like this around to play in when I was younger, so these events are very inspiring for the girls today and are so important with the growing game.”

The two players signed shirts, whilst the youngsters who took part in the tournament were invited to go and watch an Oxford United Women’s match, where they will get free entry upon wearing their signed shirts.

A spokesperson for Oxford High said: “It just goes to show that events such as these are developing and teaching the girls of all ages invaluable skills.”
