So Patrick Murray, the Lib Dem portfolio holder for improving housing for Oxford City Council says: "finally we're there" regarding the Rose Hill redevelopment (Oxford Mail, November 5). He goes on to say "most of all I would like to thank the residents of Rose Hill".
No need to thank me, Mr Murray. I have done nothing. The reason being that I know nothing about what is going on.
Being a resident of 24 years doesn't count as being informed of what is going on.
It seems private home owners on the estate are left in the dark about the regeneration.
Not one leaflet through my letter box in all the years this project has been on the books: not one councillor visiting to explain what to expect.
All I have seen, so far, is loads of 'Orlits' being demolished and the occasional appearance of Councillor Ed Turner, walking around inspecting rubbish dumped on old 'Orlit' sites.
If it wasn't for the Oxford Mail keeping its finger on the pulse, private home owners would have no clue at all regarding Rose Hill.
The Oxford Mail informs us of meetings and plans available to see, but these are at obscure times (during working hours). Plans are on view at the Sure Start or Community Centre for only two or three hours at a time. Why?
Would it not have been better to print leaflets and deliver them to all the residents of Rose Hill?
From what I have heard, and I stress, heard, not seen, more homes are being built than existing on the same size plots of land. Also more families are to live here with no extra leisure facilities.
So Mr Murray, with these 'heard' facts at my disposal, I would ask you if you have thought about a new name for Rose Hill once the project is complete? How about Sardinesville?
Of course I may be wrong. I had better wait for a leaflet or catalogue to pop through my letterbox.
Don't thank me, Mr Murray. Thank the Oxford Mail, without which I would be none the wiser.
