Prisoners at HMP Bullingdon are being tested for coronavirus.

Claims have included that two prisoners are being tested for it, cells have been shut down and that medics in hazmat suits have been seen.

The two men are currently held in an isolation room in a restricted wing.  

Charlotte Yeates claims she was told this morning via a prisoner that inmates at Bullingdon were being tested. She added that one of the prison's wings had been closed.

As of 5pm, these claims are unconfirmed. 

Public Health England said it could not comment on the claims. 

The Oxford Mail now has it on good authority that prisoners were told about the tests today, with one of the prisoners suspected to have the virus having recently been in Thailand. 

HMP Bullingdon has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Care UK, which runs Bullingdon's healthcare, declined to comment and referred the Mail to Public Health England. 

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK now sits at eight.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said the spread of coronavirus "will get worse before it gets better" as he announced greater powers and funding to help tackle the spread of the disease.

Mr Hancock said the risk to the public "remains moderate" and the eight patients with confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK are receiving "expert care".

Tracing those who have been in contact with the first four cases is "now complete" and tracing those who have been in contact with the remaining four cases is ongoing, he told MPs.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 1,358 people have been tested for coronavirus, of which 1,350 were confirmed negative and eight positive, the Department of Health said.
