A cool new attraction will transform the heart of Didcot into a winter wonderland.
For one week the town will have its first ever outdoor ice rink.
The rink will be set up in the "amphitheatre" area at the bottom of the steps of the Orchard Centre, from December 10 until December 16.
David Pryor, chairman of Didcot First, a group committed to promoting the town, said: "We are delighted to be able to respond to the requests of young people in bringing an ice rink to the Orchard Centre this winter.
"It will provide a unique atmospheric activity for the whole community and will benefit residents and those visiting this winter."
The synthetic rink will accommodate up to 45 skaters at a time at a cost of £2 per session and will be similar to the outdoor rink set up in the Oxford Castle complex at Christmas last year.
Angela Pearson, 43, from Meadow Way, Didcot, said: "I think it's an excellent idea, but I hope they make it really festive like the ones they have in other places, like London and Windsor because I thought the one in Oxford could have been better.
"I mentioned it to my daughter because her birthday is the same week and she was really excited about it. It will be something quite different to do in Didcot."
Organisers say its dry surface means there is no mess, and is ideal for skating in ballgowns and tuxedos.
Skates will be provided.
Ann Ducker, leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, said: "The idea for an ice rink in Didcot came from a DVD young people made for us about what they would like to see in the town, so I'm delighted to hear their wish may soon become a reality, thanks to Didcot First.
"We are so excited about this that we have offered to fund the whole cost of the ice rink if other sponsors cannot be found."
Hannah Quantick, 20, from Harwell, said: "I think it's a great idea. The young people in the town will really enjoy it. It's something we have never had before and I think it will be really popular and bring people together."
