MOST people downloading the new album by Oxford band Radiohead, did so free.
A survey has shown that almost two thirds of downloaders paid nothing for the album, In Rainbows, which was released as a download-only last month.
Radiohead, who met while at Abingdon School, had invited fans to pay what they liked for the ten-track album.
However, Internet monitoring company Comscore claims only 38 per cent of downloaders paid for the record - with an average price of £2.90.
American fans are thought to have paid the most (£3.85 on average), compared to £2.22 elsewhere.
No official figures have been released by Radiohead's management company Courtyard, based in Sutton Courtenay, near Abingdon.
The band are also releasing the album as part of a lavish boxed-set, costing £40.
