A MOTORCYCLIST charged with causing a death crash that killed a cyclist has admitted the offence.
Mitchell Young was charged last year with one count of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to a fatal crash near Kidlington on October 15 2018.
Despite initially denying the offence and with a trial date set for later this month the 22-year-old of North Aston Road, Duns Tew had a change of heart yesterday.
Young pleaded guilty to the single count at Oxford Crown Court and the trial date was therefore abandoned.
READ AGAIN: He originally pleaded not guilty and a trial date was set.
After his fresh plea had been entered the case was adjourned so that the National Probation Service could prepare a pre-sentence report.
That report will explore all sentencing options.
A further medical report was also sought to determine the injuries sustained by Young as a result of the crash.
He was released on bail to await his sentencing and that hearing will be held at the same court on February 6.
The guilty plea comes after cyclist Jurij Odinocenko died as a result of the crash which happened on the A4260 Banbury Road.
The 63-year-old, of Brookside Court in Woodstock, was killed when he was struck head-on close to Sturdy’s Castle pub.
Despite the efforts of paramedics to save his life, he died at the scene.
At the time it was also reported that the motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries, and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
READ AGAIN: Police appeal for witnesses.
Thames Valley Police described the incident as 'tragic' while appealing for witnesses.
Investigating officer PC Robert Turpin, of Bicester Howes Lane station, said: “This was a tragic incident where a man lost his life and another man has sustained life threatening injuries."
