BOILERS, radiators, hobs, extractor fans and white goods have been stolen in a recent series of burglaries in Oxford.

PC Craig Burchall, from Oxford police station, said: "These burglaries are happening overnight at properties that are undergoing renovation. The thieves will have needed a van, or a large vehicle to transport the stolen goods as they are mostly large and bulky items.

"Police and PCSOs are increasing their patrols in the areas of the burglaries and will be doing regular checks on any suspicious vehicles that may be seen near to these sites."

Crime reduction adviser, Graham Milne, offers the following advice to property owners who might be in the process of renovating or redecorating their properties:

  • Make sure the property is as secure as possible overnight after the completion of the day's work
  • Don't leave windows or doors insecure
  • Consider fitting a temporary alarm system
  • Use timer switches for lights, to give the impression someone is in
  • Cover up vulnerable windows/French doors, so offenders can't see what's on offer
  • Get neighbours to be vigilant on your behalf if you are living away from the property.

Anyone with any information about any of these incidents, or may have seen a suspicious vehicle in the area, or been offered to buy goods which could have been stolen is asked to contact PC Craig Burchall at Oxford police station via 0845 8 505 505, or if you do not want to talk to the police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Police said there are a number of home security leaflets available from your local police station and if you would like to have a free security survey carried out at your home call your local crime reduction officer via 08458 505 505.
