Sir - Could I thank the 80-strong Oxfordshire contingent who visited Bonn recently to celebrate 60 years of twinning with that German city?
Sixty years of friendship is an enormous achievement. I'd especially like to thank Oxford Community School, the Oxford Fidlers, the Fire and Rescue Service and, of course, the Bonn Club Oxford. Our German hosts and Oberburgermeister (Lord Mayor), Helmut Kollig, could not have been more welcoming.
The high point for me was helping to open a new pedestrian street, just around the corner from the well-named Oxford Strasse. And of course the barn dance with young and old from Bonn and Oxford dancing their socks off to the Fidlers. I look forward to the next 60 years of friendship, peace and prosperity, between our two beautiful cities.
John Tanner, Lord Mayor of Oxford
