Sir - I was pleased to read councillor Goddard's commitment (Letters, October 26) to make sure that checks are in place on all future property deals to ensure that the council gets value for money.

I hope that he will extend these checks to all deals, in particular the proposed bus shelter contract with Adshel.

Readers will recall the great difficulties put in the way of your reporter in obtaining the crucial information on the Kassam deal. I hope that he will also ensure that these are a thing of the past.

I can see that a commercial enterprise will wish to keep such details confidential. It is in their interest. It is surely in our interest that we, through the good offices of your reporters, can see what value we are getting for our money.
