Sir - Re Michael Tyce's letter (November 2), in which he attacked the organisation Climate XChange and the 'climate change brigade', it takes only a moment to look up the Climate XChange website and see that this is a bona fide organisation run by reputable scientists from the University of Oxford doing work funded by central Government.
Furthermore, the quibbling over why Victorian women wore knickers is a red herring which merely serves to detract attention from the real issue of climate change. One only has to look at work being done by international scientists from the WHO and UNEP on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (www.ipcc.ch) to understand that human activity is an unarguable driver of climate change and even if our behaviour only acts to exacerbate change which is already happening, that is no reason to sit on our hands and do nothing.
But perhaps the most interesting aspect of Mr Tyce's letter is his accusation that those concerned about climate change are 'reds in green clothing'. I note that the WI is one of the many supporters of ClimateXChange, I am sure those worthy women would be interested to find themselves branded communist for caring about what is happening in the world.
How easy it is to lump people whose opinions you find difficult or which make you uneasy under an umbrella which allows you to dismiss them. Wouldn't it be better to use your brain, leave your anachronistic kneejerk opinions behind, read up on the facts and consider how we can all work together to address this issue which threatens to destroy our beautiful planet.
