Sir - Despite assurances from Control Plus that they do not target primary school drop-offs, it is sadly becoming increasingly common to see parking wardens in the immediate vicinity of the gates of primary schools at peak drop-off times in the morning.
I was ticketed, at 8.50am, in a residents' area less than 20 metres from the entrance to St Barnabas. While such tickets can be challenged and waived, the fine is the least of things. What is far more important is the danger this presents to young children. It is well known that the majority of fatal accidents involving cars and young children are caused by drivers being distracted, usually inadvertently. It should be obvious that traffic wardens hovering around school gates, and issuing tickets on the council's behalf, is distracting and, therefore, potentially dangerous to children. The council and Control Plus should immediately renew their commitment that primary school drop-offs will not be targeted by traffic wardens, and that, for tickets wrongly issued to parents at such times, that concrete sanctions will be placed on the individual officer and on Control Plus for these irresponsible actions.
