POLICE closed part of the A420 this morning after the second crash on the road in as many days.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash near Faringdon, which resulted in firefighters having to free a woman from her car after it ended up in a ditch.

The road was closed both ways between the A417 Park Road roundabout (the turn-off for Aldi and Waitrose) and the junction for Little Coxwell, but has now reopened. 

It shut at around 7am but had opened by 9.45am. 

South Central Ambulance Service has now confirmed details of the collision, and said its crews received a 999 call at 6.38am.

Three vehicles collided, resulting in one of them coming off the road and into a ditch, trapping the female driver inside.

She had to be released from the car by the fire service but had only sustained minor injuries, SCAS said, and was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

A second driver with minor injuries was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, while a third driver with minor injuries was treated at the scene.

Oxfordshire County Council warned motorists to expect delays in the area. 

Traffic was queuing at either side, and there were also tailbacks on Coxwell Road back to Faringdon.

Yesterday morning, a man in his 30s died in a two-car crash on the A420 near Cumnor.

Another man involved in the crash was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

This morning's collision happened about 13 miles away, closer to Faringdon. 

One passer-by said there were 'multiple emergency vehicles' on scene.

Another said RAF personnel stopped to help police with the traffic.
