THE founder of Helen House, the world's first children's hospice, visited Witney to see one of nine new shops helping to raise funds.
Sister Frances Dominica joined Witney MP David Cameron to open the new shop at 26 Market Square.
On the first day alone, the shop took more than £1,700 to support Helen and Douglas House in East Oxford.
Sister Frances said: "As well as raising funds, our new shops help to raise awareness of our potential to help families in the region.
"There is often a misconception that hospices are sad places, but the new Witney shop will help to spread the word that Helen House and Douglas House are warm, vibrant places which support the whole family."
The charity is celebrating its 25th anniversary since Helen House opened in 1982.
Douglas House, which opened in 2004, was the world's first hospice for young adults.
Together they provide rest and recuperation, treatment of symptoms, end of life care, family support and education.
The new shop provides a wide selection of women's and men's wear, books, a gift section and separate area for children.
To donate goods, call 01235 764490 or take them to the shop. A collection service is available for larger items.
The charity is also looking for volunteers to help run the Witney shop. Call Hilary Burr on 01865 794749.
