A MAN was caught 'recklessly' drink driving when he was refused some booze in a shop.
Staff at the shop wouldn't sell Jonathan Allen any more alcohol on July 29 earlier this year, because he was already too drunk.
But when they refused, they witnessed him getting back into a black Mini and driving away.
They called the police and within 20 minutes officers traced 60-year-old Allen to his home on St Katherine's Road in Henley-on-Thames.
He refused to provide a roadside breath test and was arrested.
He later gave a breath test and was found to be nearly four times over the legal limit, having given a reading of 138 micrograms of alcohol.
He appeared in the dock at Oxford Magistrates' Court on December 6 where he was found guilty.
Allen was disqualified from driving for 32 months, ordered to undertake 80 hours of unpaid work and was given a 12 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay £960 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £122.
PC Alex Holmes from the Joint Operations Policing Unit based at Three Mile Cross, said: "Allen's actions were completely reckless and he was in no state to be even considering getting behind the wheel and driving.
“It is hugely lucky that he was not involved in a road traffic collision.
“Currently we are running Operation Holly which is our anti drink and drug driving campaign.
“Drink and drug driving has devastating consequences with over around 20 percent of fatal collisions involving drink or drugs.
“We are calling on members of the public to take positive action and influence those around them by stopping people under the influence from driving.
“The message is simple: Don’t drink or drug drive – It’s not worth the risk.”
