POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men attempted to burgle a house in Long Hanborough.
At 2.10pm on Thursday, the occupant of a house on Abelwood Road heard her doorbell ring but was unable to answer it at the time. A short while later she heard the patio doors at the rear of her property rattle.
Her dog ran to the door barking and she could see two men fiddling with the handle in what appeared to be an attempt to enter the house. As she approached the door, they saw her and climbed over the wall at the bottom of her garden and into neighbouring Millwood End.
They are both white, in their mid-twenties, and average height. They had short, dark hair and were wearing blue tops, jeans and trainers.
PC Claire Sadler, of Witney police, said: "Although these men were unsuccessful in breaking into this house, they may well be responsible for other burglaries locally. If you saw two men acting suspiciously in either Abelwood Road or Milwood End, please let us know.
"This lady's home security seems to have kept these opportunist burglars out of her house."
PC Sadler can be contacted via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.
