This was the RAC to the rescue, 1950s-style.
RAC patrolmen on motorcycles were a regular sight at the time, but in 1959, the motoring organisation bought two BSA Sunbeam 250cc twin scooters - one of which was deployed in Oxford.
The sidecar body was made of fibre glass and carried tools and spares.
The new machines were narrower than the average motorcycle and sidecar the RAC used, and were much easier to manoeuvre. They were intended purely for town work, and operated in Oxford daily.
