I agree it would be too dangerous for people to try to cross the road to The Plain in Oxford to get a drink if the fountain was restored.
But I don't agree with Chris Boswell about 'plonking' this piece of history elsewhere (Oxford Mail, October 31).
The fountain has stood for many years where it is - leave it where it belongs. The Plain would be naked without the fountain, so leave the water off and let people admire it from afar.
If you want a statue, plonk that in the middle of Bonn Square - what about one of the Wurzels singing I am a cider drinker, to commemorate the drinking history of the square?
Yes, before you ask, I do come from St Clement's (Cave Street) and the fountain is part of my childhood memories.
