Your article, Looking north for a new look (Oxford Mail, October 10) interested me immensely and I have a few comments to make on the so-called improvement plans put forward.
I am sure most of the residents of the Cowley Road area in Oxford will agree with my views.
There are already too many Indian, Chinese, Lebanese and Asian restaurants and takeaways in Cowley Road, without introducing any more.
There is enough trouble and crime there after the pubs and clubs close, so why give people an excuse to cause more disturbances and throw all their unfinished takeaways all over the streets and rub them over car windscreens, and so on?
All the wilful damage is caused by unruly late night revellers.
Just because David Williams, of the Green Party, said it worked in Manchester, it doesn't mean to say it will work here.
We need to keep the character of Cowley Road, not ruin it, as is happening at the moment.
Come on, Oxford city councillors - wake your ideas up and don't ruin Cowley Road any more with these hair-brained schemes. Let's have a bit of the old Cowley Road left.
There are too many cafés, clubs and pubs now - we don't need any more. Listen to the residents for once in your lives.
