Thankfully, we have had no reports of firework accidents in Oxfordshire.
But the real test could come tonight when many families hold their own private parties.
At the public displays held at the weekend, health and safety regulations were in force in abundance.
Such strict rules, however, will not apply when families set off fireworks in their gardens.
It will be up to those in charge to make sure that there are no accidents and injuries.
Given all the restrictions we face these days, it is perhaps a surprise that Guy Fawkes' Night is still celebrated.
We wouldn't like to see this great British tradition disappear. But if it is to survive, safety must be uppermost in everyone's mind.
