A teenager has been jailed for two years after admitting attempted robbery and intimidating a witness.
Oxford Crown Court heard that Jacob Chambers, who has 13 previous convictions, held a man down outside The Coven nightclub, in Oxpens Road, Oxford, on May 18, and tried to force him to hand over his mobile phone.
Prosecutor Cathy Olliver said in another incident on July 12, Chambers and 18-year-old Arron Williams stopped an American student walking down St Ebbe's into Pembroke Street and asked him for a cigarette. Chambers then pushed him into a doorway and searched his pockets, before pushing him to the floor.
Both incidents were captured on CCTV, leading to the pair being arrested.
Chambers, 18, from Salesian Gardens, Cowley, Oxford, admitted two counts of attempted robbery and one of intimidation. He asked for seven other offences to be taken into consideration.
Williams, 18, of Preachers Lane, Oxford, admitted one charge of attempted robbery.
Judge Christopher Compston handed Williams a 12-month community order and ordered him to do 50 hours of unpaid work.
Chambers was jailed for two years.
