Campaigners who want to see speed limits in streets across Oxford lowered to 20mph are to meet council bosses on Monday.
Oxford Pedestrians' Association and cycle pressure group Cyclox are among those who have got behind the campaign Life Begins at 20.
They were due to meet Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member for transport implementation Ian Hudspeth to try to persuade County Hall to make reducing speed limits a priority.
City councillor Susanna Pressel, who is also a member of Oxford Pedestrians' Association and Cyclox, said: "Among the benefits of 20mph limits in residential areas are fewer road accidents, an increase in cycling and walking and an improved quality of life for the residents.
"Other cities such as Hull and Portsmouth have introduced this very successfully. We want it. I hope the county council and the police will now listen to the people of Oxford."
Among the areas where residents have been calling for the limit are Divinity Road and surrounds in East Oxford, Quarry High Street in Headington and parts of Blackbird Leys.
The city council has agreed to support the 20mph campaign where there is demand from residents.
