ARMED police swooped on a residential road after reports that a man had a weapon.

Officers received reports that a man was armed with an air rifle last night, inside a home in Lancut Road in Witney.

A woman sustained minor injuries during the incident, which unfolded at about 8.20pm.

Police entered the house and carried out a search, but the man was not inside.

Officers recovered the air rifle and an investigation is ongoing.

A resident described what happened as a 'stand-off' and reported seeing a heavy police presence, including four armed response cars and a dog unit.

Residents say officers blocked off both ends of Lancut Road and that police were present through the night and into this morning.
