A MAN has been arrested after a £5m gold toilet was ripped out of the floor of Blenheim Palace.
The 18-carat toilet was plumbed in as part of the Maurizio Cattelan exhibition that had opened two days before the dawn raid at the stately home on September 14.
So far police have arrested five people – a 66-year-old from Evesham, a 35-year-old from Cheltenham and a group of two men and a woman from Oxford – on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to burgle.
They have all been released under investigation and the toilet has still not been found.
Now police have arrested a 35-year-old man from London on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
He being questioned by police about the heist and a decision on whether he will be charged or released is expected today.
Police say they believed five people were involved in the heist – using two stolen cars with fake plates on to pull it off.
They say the five drove into the Woodstock Palace through the front gates, before three of them went inside in balaclavas and ripped out the toilet before loading it into one of the cars boots and making a dash for freedom at around 4.50am.
