A COUNCIL has urged drivers not to attempt to pass through a 'severely flooded' road in an Oxfordshire village.
Oxfordshire County Council tweeted this morning that 'Lower Road' is flooded at Islip, near Oxford.

It is thought this is supposed to refer to Lower Street in Islip, which was also badly flooded during the 2008 deluge.

The council warned: "Severe flooding on Lower Road at Islip.
"Do not attempt to drive through floodwater."
Several flood warnings remain in place today covering Oxfordshire, warning of flooding to low-lying land.

Yesterday, Chipping Norton Road in Ascot under Wychwood and the Oddington Bend between Merton and Islip were closed due to flooding.

The council's highways manager said Oxfordshire's position was 'very good' compared to flooding that has devastated the north of England in the past few days, but said the council is keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and river levels.
Today, the Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the Government’s emergency Cobra committee to discuss the response to severe flooding in parts of the country.
