A 17-year-old girl told police she woke up in an alleyway to find a man raping her.
The teenager had met the man in The Bridge Night Club, on Hythe Bridge Street, Oxford, and left with him at about 2.40am on Saturday.
The next thing she remembers is waking up in a passageway beside Castle Mill Stream, believed to be Fisher Row, to a man raping her.
Despite begging him to stop, the attack continued, before the man eventually stopped and walked away.
Police said they had increased the amount of officers in the area yesterday, following what they described as a ‘traumatic’ attack.
They said they were doing ‘all they can’ to hunt for the man responsible.
He was described as a white man, in his late teens to early 20s, about 5ft 9ins tall and slim.
It is not yet known what he was wearing.
Police are hoping some of the details might jog the memories of people in the area at the time who saw something that could be vital to the investigation.
Detective Inspector Jon Capps, who is investigating the incident, is based at Banbury Police Station.
He said: “Clearly, this is a very distressing incident which has been extremely traumatic for the victim.
“She is being supported by specially trained officers at this time and a full investigation into the incident has been launched.
“Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence in Oxford today while we carry out enquiries. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to approach our officers who will do their best to answer your questions.
“We are doing all that we can to locate the man responsible for this incident, but we need the public’s help.
“If you have any information which you think could be relevant to our investigation, I would urge you to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“You could have details which are vital to our investigation, so please contact us and tell us what you know.”
