A cycling group deserves praise for drawing attention to a dozen or so spots around the city which present more serious dangers to cyclists.
The group feels, perhaps justifiably, there has been more emphasis placed on trying to shift people out of private vehicles and on to public transport than to use two-wheeled transport.
It also wants more training for cyclists and judging by another piece we carry this week, some could certainly do with it. Police issued 55 cyclists with fines in just two hours for riding without lights at night. One cyclist told the officers he did not even realise lights were needed on a bicycle at night. In addition to a fine perhaps these riders might like to pay to participate in a road safety course, along the lines that speeding drivers are invited to attend.
